Forage Kochia (Bassia prostrata)
Description: Small to medium polymorphic evergreen subshrub, 1'-3' in height. Part of the Amaranthaceae family, introduced to the United States as rangeland forage for fire control.
Life Cycle: Perennial Shrub
Habitat: Rangelands. Prefers hot, dry conditions.
Leaves: Linear to thread like, look similar to needles
Stem: Clustered stems. Upper stem turns red in late summer to fall.
Flower: Small clustered flowers with round, flat, or wing-like appendages
Fruit: Fruit is an utricle with oval or round seeds
Root: Deep taproot and extensive fiberous roots
The problem is… prolific seed producer and many seedlings germinate
