EXTENSION EDUCATOR INSERVICE REGISTRATION
The Pesticide Applicator Training Educator Inservice will be held on December 6 and 7, 2006. The event will be held in the Agriculture Auditorium in the Agriculture Administration Building on OSU main campus in Columbus.
Registration information is on the website at http://pested.osu.edu A pdf file of the inservice agenda is also on the page. Cost of inservice is $10/day which includes lunch and all materials. Again, this year there will be an Educator Planning and ANR Issues Meeting on Wednesday evening, 5:30 - 8:00. The dinner meeting is coordinated by Steve Baertsche, Assistant Director, Agriculture and Natural Resources.
WORKER PROTECTION CASES ON THE WEB
The EPA National Agricultural Compliance Assistance Center recently revised their website. The website now contains all the EPA and State Worker Protection Standard (WPS) enforcement case summaries which are accessible on-line and details specifics of past closed cases. Posted and linked are all the on-line EPA and State WPS enforcement cases which are known to EPA at this time. EPA encourages applicator trainers and others to use these postings to enhance their worker protection training. EPA TO CERTIFY LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION PROFESSIONALS
EPA has developed a set of specifications to certify landscape irrigation professionals. The certification program is part of EPA’s WaterSense program to help conserve and protect the nation’s water supply. Organizations and businesses are encouraged by EPA to become part of the program. Certified professionals will be able to use the WaterSense logo for their business.
The professionals will be certified by organizations that sign a partnership agreement with EPA and follow the specifications for certification. The participating organizations will establish their own oversight committees that will be responsible for developing exams and certifying professionals.

GRASS DETERRENT TO CANADA GEESE
New Zealand researchers may have designed a grass mix that makes Canada geese sick to their stomach. By combining endophytes and grass, the researchers are looking for a combination that will keep birds away. In addition to the insects not eating the grass, the grass causes the birds to feel sick. The grass is not toxic, but gives the birds the message to go elsewhere for their meal. (Source: Chemically Speaking, University of Florida Extension, August, 2006)
EPA ANNOUNCES REGISTRATION REVIEW SCHEDULE
The schedule for the registration review program has been released by EPA. This is the 15-year review of products required by FIFRA (Federal Insecticides, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act). MARYLAND PLANS RELEASE OF LEAF BEETLES
European leaf beetles love to eat purple loosestrife, so the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is planning to release about 5,500 of the Galerucella beetles to combat the spread of purple loosestrife in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, as reported by the Associated Press. The Maryland DNR has also set up a reporting system for residents to report areas of purple loosestrife invasions.
